Who Is Gabriel?

Hey, I'm Gabriel Valdes-Urra and this will be my first blog post. Both my parents are from Havana, Cuba and I was raised all around Miami and Broward County.  My household is all girls as I'm the only boy with 3 older sisters. I go to Everglades High School in Miramar. I'd say I'm very in touch with my culture as I grew up in majority Cuban places like Hialeah. I think it affects the way I see the world a lot, especially since Cuba is a highly poverty stricken country currently.

Movies and shows relating to my background like Scarface and Que Pasa USA shaped my childhood and grew my love for film and media. My family has showed me many pieces of media that I've come to love such as The Sopranos and Breaking Bad. I'm taking AICE Media Studies as an outlet to express my love for film and also as a chance to show the world my creativity. I've always noticed the finer details in media such as the camera work and certain shots, even when I was younger. I know film and media is a passion of mine and I think that this class is a great way to express and show that love. With that, I'm signing off. Stay tuned for more blog posts about film and media.
